Woo hoo! AmericanPupusa shows up on Racialicious!!!

Oy oy!!! My piece "Elements of Diversity" is featured on Racialicious, introducing me as a guest contributor! Shouts to Latoya Peterson and the rest of her crew as they bring in very cool intersections related to the discourse of social issues and race that you don't normally see. If you haven't checked it alt.latino, please do... I also would advise checking DJ Rupture's Mudd Up show... probably the two podcasts I check for alternative Latino, Digital Cumbia, and forward thinking music of the transnational nature...

"Maya Talk" and "Rio Yañez" - Blogs I found in my search for Mayan Zombies

I do not know this person, but ran across her blog as I was looking for pictures of Mayan Zombies, my latest obsession in light of falling birds and dead fish all over the planet, in preparation for 2012, aka "The Queztalcoatl Comeback Special." Maya Talk runs quite closely to my view and image of forward-thinking cultural production that is grounded in the social and identity.

I wasn't able to find Mayan Zombies, but I did find Rio Yañez's blog where he shares a whole array of photography, pics, comics, and other forms of art that brings Latinidad and expression SOOO forward to the now. Check it out! I'm really glad I found folks doing future-forward and present expressions that follow the AmericanPupusa vibe!

LatiNegr@s Project - Celebrating the Afro-Latino experience for Black History Month

A great project to recognize the wide scope and range of the Afro-Latino diaspora. I am grateful to have been asked to contribute, and so I wanted to share and make the opportunity a communal experience for all of us. Bianca Laureano is organizing this and you can also follow along on her blog Latino Sexuality

"We are seeking to compliment curriculum/celebrations/rituals/etc. surrounding Black History Month to include the histories, experiences, and contributions of LatiNegr@s/Afro-Latinos/Afro-Caribeños."

Here is the goal of the project:

"As the formal US focus on Black History Month (February 1-28/9) is upon us we seek to celebrate all of the peoples who have influence and history via the African Diasporas. Expanding the inclusively of Black History Month is a goal for several of us, self-identified LatiNeg@s, Afro-Latinos and Afro-Caribeños. As people who recognize and claim the African heritage and history, we have often been excluded from US History, whether it be Black history or Latino history (Septermber 15-October 15). Join us in honoring and recognizing LatiNegr@s this year during Black and Latino History Month. We are Black, Latino and from the Caribbean. We REPRESENT!"

a happy benefit of my blog is finding like-minded souls from across the world. Here is a blog by kindred spirits from Califas... as they too enjoy words like 'hybridity', 'identity', and 'Latinidades'. Their angle is much more on the feminine pressure tip, with explorations of fashion, image, and what not... quite refreshing and has a lot more character than my own blog.. big up ladies!
